Children and young people have a really key part to play in the family that is Holy Trinity Church. On Sundays and throughout the week there are meetings and activities aimed at encouraging them to reach out in faith to God, to grow and develop giftings……..and just to have fun!
The children's work is led by our two youth workers and . You can check out the current news on their blog http://www.dreandjosh.blogspot.com, this has continual updates on what they are doing, how to pray for them, answers to prayer, links to great resources, and a series of fun snippets for children and young people. You can get in touch with either of them through the church office (024 7622 0418) or emial by clicking on their names.
The following are key areas in which the church is currently working with young people.
Sunday 9.30am Service
During the 9:30 service there is a supervised crèche and Sunday schools that run for ages 3-15 in the Church Centre. The 3rd Sunday of every month is an all age service, and the 4th Sunday of the month, there is Kid’s Praise, which is when all age Sunday schools come together for a time of teaching, prayer and fun. Kid’s Praise exists to help engage young people and children in a different way.
Sunday 11.00am Service
During the 11am service there is an unsupervised crèche in the church and Sunday schools that run for ages 4-17. The teaching each week follows the lectionary. On the 3rd Sunday of every month we bring all the age groups together for something a little different.
Sunday from 5.30-6.45pm Magnet
This is a meeting for the 15+ group. We look at a different topic each week, what the Bible has to say about it, and how it affects our daily lives.
HTC Choir Kids
Every week, the last 15 minutes of the choir kid’s practice is hijacked for a time of fun and interactive learning. We challenge them to memorize Bible verses together. With some help from chocolate and cookie shaped bribes, they’ve all learned Romans 12:12-15. We have also started a question and answer time for them, tackling topics like who wrote the Bible and why we sing songs in church.
OUTREACH
At HTC we are focused on looking outwards towards our city, particularly when it comes to Young People. Following is Dré & Josh's latest update:
Barrs Hill School & Community College
We occasionally teach GCSE and A Level PHSE lessons at Barrs Hill and have been doing this since September. So far, we’ve covered Poverty, Relationships, AIDS, Euthanasia and Abortion. As part of our lessons, we’re asked to share our Christian perspectives on these tough issues. We ran their Sixth Form Christmas assembly, and have been invited back for their Easter assembly as well. We love Barrs Hill, the students and staff are phenomenal! It’s an amazing opportunity to get to spend time with them.
Blue Coat C of E School
We regularly join the YFC team in teaching year 10 PHSE lessons. During the Christmas term we focused on Drugs in the Media, and this term we have been teaching a part of their Sex Education lessons. We also took the Sixth Form Communion Service at the end of January. We’ve been able to build relationships with a number of Sixth Formers over the past months, and meet with a number of them regularly.
City Wide Youth Work
We consistently meet with other youth workers in the area. In November, we helped to host an event called The Vision for Coventry. We had a great turn out, and it helped us to better understand the needs of the Christian young people in the area. We’ve started to meet weekly with some other local youth workers for prayer, seeking the way forward for city wide youth work. We hope to launch a monthly youth event in the near future. Watch this space!
Spark in the Park
This is a children’s holiday club initiative, led by Sarah Harrison from Queen’s Road Baptist Church. It will run in Memorial Park, each afternoon from 28th July – 1st August. It will differ from your typical holiday club, as it’s essentially a drop in for children and their families. There’s no signing your child in and leaving – it’s a whole family club. We’re on the Executive Committee for Spark, and are excited about working with churches from across the city to see this outreach happen. We’ll need around 100 volunteers each day to make this happen! If you’re interested, let us know!
