Some thoughts from the service on July 8th

9.30 congregation (Guest) (11/07/2012 12:06)

The congregation at last Sunday's 9.30 service spent time listening to God, reading His word and talking about what He might be saying to us. Here is some of the feedback, related to the relevant passages of scripture:

John 17:20-23
- Teaching to go to serve the world, to be Jesus to the world
- The Father is in us so that the world may believe. We need to be Jesus to the world
- There are lots of people who come to this and other services in Holy Trinity that we don't know - how can we "be one" with them?
- If the world needs to see Jesus through us, how do we do mission?
- Meet in each other's homes - be generous and welcoming
- Rest in relationship with others, especially those who are not yet part of our family
- Unity but with an outward view that should be aiming to include and welcome others into their one-ness and closeness to Christ
- Keep things simple so we can go out to serve the world and be light. Make time for others
- Being able to come here and worship togther - to be refreshed and equipped to go out into the world

Acts 2: 46-47
- New people joining the apostles and following Jesus - they were attracted and shared love, having first experienced God's love

Matthew 11: 28-30
- "come" - we need to be willing to move, which implies not being in the same place in the future as we are now
- Trust God and each other to hand burdens over and to seek God together
- Learn from Jesus how best to be at rest here so that we can take that with us into the world; likewise, gentleness in our relationships with each other
- what is rest? It's not necessarily doing nothing but what refreshes us and keeps us humble
- lots of us have been very burdened by the 9.30 service and work involved in it. Is God asking us to lay burdens down and focus on worshipping Him more fully?
- we must beware lest we lay our own burdens on top of the easy one which Jesus lays upon us

Isaiah 60:1-3
- Identity - what we're about
- Fact is that Holy Trinity is now more visible from the city. God may use this?
