Back to work with a smile!
I'm back in Coventry and at work, having had a wonderful half-term week off with all my boys in the Scottish borders. Whilst it's always a bit of a wrench, having to come back to reality after a holiday, I'm feeling very refreshed and very excited about the next couple of months here at Holy Trinity.
Anyone who knows me well, will be able to confirm that I absolutely love Christmas. So Advent always feels like an incredibly special time of year for me, as we prepare for the coming Christ and the celebrations that brings.
So, although it isn't Christmas yet and Advent's still a few weeks off, I've come back to work and found myself typing things like "Third Sunday before Advent" on news- and service sheets. And it's not only the church calendar which is encouraging a sense of anticipation: the lovely volunteers from Cards for Good Causes will be setting up a temporary stall in the Archdeacon's Court from next week; we're planning for the Christmas Fayre on 3rd December, where we have the opportunity to welcome Christmas shoppers in to the church with refreshments and music; and we're into full preparation for the Christmas services, starting with Darkness to Light on Advent Sunday at the end of this month.
For this superfan of Christmas, it really does feel like church is the perfect place to work at this time of year....
